OnePlus has never been one to squander its efforts, nor overreach too much into odd and new tech fields, like Xiaomi. On the contrary, the start-up has always been keenly focused on mobile alone, which has undoubtedly helped in creating its compelling smartphone offers at least to some extent.

Rumors of various other OnePlus devices have been a constant recurrence over the years, but never really came to be, apart from the April Fools day OnePlus DR-1 limited production mini drone, if you want to count that. However, a new tweet by co-founder Carl Pei definitively proves that this product strategy wasnt always set in stone and that he company has explored other ideas in the past.

The post in question showcases an early sketch of what could have been a OnePlus smartwatch. The company was apparently exploring the idea in between the release of the OnePlus 2 and the new OnePlus 3 flagships. The device looks to offer a round form factor and interchangeable bands with what looks to be a sort of snap-in frame design.

Not much else is mentioned about it, but judging by Carl Peis comment - "What could have been but never will be.", it is largely irrelevant, since the smartwatch is apparently scrapped for good.

Acer announced two new smartphones today at its press event at IFA. Both are droids running on Android Marshmallow and spiced by Acers proprietary launcher.

The first one is the budget Acer Liquid Z6 with a price tag as low as €119. It has a 5.0" HD screen and runs on the MT6737 chip with a quad-core 1.25GHz Cortex-A53 processor, Mali-T720MP2 GPU, and 1GB of RAM.

The rest of the Liquid Z6 specs include 8 gigs expandable storage, an 8MP main camera, a 2MP selfie snapper, and a 2,000 mAh battery.

The Liquid Z6 is made of plastic and will be released this November in Asia, Europe, and the Middle East at about $130 or €119 price.

The Acer Liquid Z6 Plus, as the name suggests, is the bigger one with a 5.5" IPS 1080p display, enhanced with a 2.5D curved glass. It is powered by a snappier MT6753 chip with a quad-core 1.3GHz Cortex-A53 CPU, Mali-T7 20 GPU, and 3GB of RAM.

There are other upgrades, too, worthy of the extra cash to the Plus moniker. The Liquid Z6 Plus is made of metal and comes with 32GB expandable storage, a fingerprint scanner, a 13MP main camera, a 5MP selfie shooter, and a beefy 4,080 mAh battery.

The Liquid Z6 Plus will launch in Asia ($280), Europe (€249), and the Middle East in December.

In addition to the two smartphones, Acer also introduced a 7" tablet capable of making phone calls - the Acer Iconia Talk S. The small tablet (or the big phablet depending on how you look at it) packs a 7" 720p display and runs on the MT8735 chip with a quad-core Cortex-A53 CPU and 2GB of RAM.

The Iconia Talk S offers 16/32GB expandable storage, dual-SIM telephony with LTE support, a 13MP main camera, a 2MP selfie cam, and Android Marshm allow OS with Acer apps.

The Iconia Talk S will also make it to the EMEA region. The launch will happen in September and the pricing is set to €169 ($190).
